Thoughts from Tulsa

First and foremost, I have to thank God for the many blessings He’s given me over the years, thank you Lord for the opportunities you’ve given me and the trials and tribulations that help us grow into the kind of person you want us to be…

Thanks to my wife for being my rock, for being my source of strength and inspiration, there’s not enough words to describe all my feelings for you…

Thanks to my team, coaches and training partners, in this tough career choice we’ve made we’re gonna have our share of ups and downs, it’s an amazing comfort when you know your team is gonna have your back no matter what…

Thanks to all my family, friends and fans, this sport is as tough as there is, all the kind words, the messages, the tweets, the notes, the mentions, the posts, the texts, they mean the world to me because I don’t do this for the same reasons a lot of other fighters do it for, I’d like to think I do it for a much higher cause and all your words let me know that I’m fighting for the exact right reasons…

Proverbs 169

Proverbs 16:9…A lot of times things don’t go your way, as unfair & as unjust as things are that’s how it is a lot of times. That’s called life.
It’s not going to stop being unfair if you cry, whine, or complain about things. Sometimes you have to suck it up, man up and acknowledge what you can do better and start working on getting better. A big huge thanks to all my family, friends and fans for their support and kind words after such a disappointing decision against Cowboy last night. Gotta take my hat off to Cowboy too, nothing but love for him. He did exactly what he was supposed to do; try and beat me up. Cowboy doesn’t control the judges decision anymore than I do. He’s a gamer, who else would take that fight on 2 weeks notice, not a single other fighter said yes.

My promise, as always, is to continue to get one percent better everyday, do it all for His glory and hold nothing back for the swim to shore.
Let’s see who’s game at 170 lbs???

Coram Deo

As you guys may or may not have heard, I’ll be back at it inside that octagon on April 4th, 2015 at the Patriots Center in Fairfax, Virginia. I’ll be squaring off against Jorge Masvidal.

I asked Joe Silva to fight as soon as possible and he obliged by allowing me to step in for Bobby Green. I’m pretty disappointed with the way the last two outings in the octagon ended, one being stopped by the referee and the last one being a decision that didn’t go my way. I don’t make excuses or place the blame on anyone else, it’s me in there performing and I need to perform better. Whatever it is it takes, I need to do that. If it takes me taking my opponent down and laying on top of him for the entirety of the fight, I can do that. If it takes me punching my opponent in the left pectoral muscle exclusively, I can do that. Whatever it takes, I feel like I am good enough to do it. All that being said, I’m pretty upset and I’m going to let that frustration release in Fairfax.

Need to be Said

Tying to be concise but there’s so much that needs to be said…

You gotta take your butt-whoopings like man, don’t make excuses, don’t mention 10 other reasons why it happened, just pull it together and start getting better. Doesn’t matter if it’s your job and missing a promotion, getting accepted to your university of choice or getting beat up for 25 minutes. Either way you can wait a week or a month or 3 months but eventually you need to pull it together and start working on improving…I choose to start improving now.

Have to praise the Big Man above for giving me the opportunity to let a little bit of His light shine out through my actions (in victory and defeat) and thank my amazing Wife for being my rock, there’s not a chance I would be half the man I am without you by my side. Also couldn’t be the fighter I am without the best gym in all of MMA, we’re by each other’s side through all the ups and downs of this crazy career we’ve chose. Love you boys and girls. And to the greatest fans in the world, thanks for the positive vibes and kind words!!! Like I always say, this career is too hard if not for your guys and girls support!!!

God bless…

The Move

I’d like to officially announce my move over to Bellator MMA.
I’m beyond excited for this next phase of my career, it’s a big move, like any move when switching employers or jobs after having worked somewhere for such a long time.

I have to thank the BigMan upstairs for putting some amazing people in my life, my wife (first and foremost) and a lot of truly smart and insightful people behind the scenes who helped make the connections and negotiated this deal to bring it to fruition.

I’d be remiss to not thank Dana White and Lorenzo Fertita for the opportunities they presented me, you guys have helped me change my life for the better and to be able to provide my family with the things I didn’t have while growing up. For that I’ll always have the utmost appreciation. Thanks for all the advise you guys gave too, both business wise and personal.

And last but not least, to who it is I think of when I think of the UFC! Everybody behind the scenes who I personally dealt with every time I reported in or had to do something. Mayra, Melissa, Dave, Chris, Nick, Tracy, Joanie, Maura, Tony, Heidi, Ryan, James, Dave, Kaia (sp.???), Burt, Rob, Rudy, Stitch, House, Mike, Susie, Dean, Donna, Feryal, Sean, Joe, Brad, Jazzmine, Candice, Michelle, Reed, sorry I can’t name everyone or this list would go on for forever. There’s a whole ton of people behind the scenes who make that show what it is. You guys and girls are the ones who make that show great and allow us fighters to do what it is we love!!! Much love to you all and thanks for putting up with me for so long.

To my fans, thanks for all the love and support, I’ll keep giving you my all, opening up my heart and soul inside that cage. I’m excited for this next chapter and building new relationships with guys I’ve heard nothing but great things about like Scott Coker, Rich Chou and Mike Kogan.
